Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message may be retained so a response can be prepared. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page causes the servers to receive routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- Your device's IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The referring website, when available
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as which pages are visited most and where visits end. You may block cookies through your browser settings, although doing so can change how some site features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the applicable partner
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Finding and repairing technical faults
- Understanding which pages visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal histories. The site identifies official sources for Onondaga County records, including the Sheriff, local court clerks, OCA WebCriminal, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, NYS DOCCS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy policy, including its retention and disclosure practices, rather than this policy. Review that provider's terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Onondaga County Sheriff, New York courts, DCJS, NYS DOCCS, registry resources, legal services, or outside search tools. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising. We do not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners that process a query you submit
- Advertising networks that serve content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for collected data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, however, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor provided such data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary with where you live. In New York, General Business Law § 899-bb requires reasonable safeguards for covered private information, General Business Law § 899-aa addresses breach notice, and General Business Law § 349 prohibits deceptive business practices. New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs requests to government agencies and does not turn this private site into a public-records custodian. Executive Law § 837 assigns DCJS criminal-history duties, while Criminal Procedure Law Article 160 controls sealing and related limits on dissemination. You may ask us to:
- Describe or provide the personal data associated with you that we hold
- Correct inaccurate information in our control
- Delete data where applicable law permits the request
- Record an opt-out request for processing that offers such a choice
